Kind of sucks because old Lo Wang could always make me laugh, but I understand why they weren't going to take that risk. I think they made him younger and more "hip" to make sure nobody would mistakenly call him racist and bring the wrath of cancel culture down on the entire game series.
#Shadow warrior 1 cutscenes movie#
It was an old gritty bad kung-fu movie as a game and FWH doesn't understand that. The "so bad it's funny" is what made Shadow Warrior 1997 what it was. This "new Wang" has already been pulled off, arguably twice between SW1 and SW2. The changes they are talking about are the ones they made to Wang between 1997 and the first remake in 2013, not between SW2 and SW3. So what is your take on this? Do you think they will be able to pull of a new Wang? Or maybe it is just me and I should go and write some Wang fanfics.Though this does not kill the hype for me since I am sure that they might be able to retain The Wang even after the changes, it is not as that I am only "playing it for the plot". Being a person whose attitude is not of this time and slowly turn and accept a more "proper" attitude and language ( while still making stupid mistakes, and being "man" enough to apologize, for example) would make him so much better.I am anybody who played enough with Wang now just how hillarous and nice would it be if he accidentally triggered or offended someone ( maybe a trans character since we might be as well getting woke) in a most cringe inducing laugh out loud on how stupid and ignorant this is, noticing that he has put too much Wang in it and then just genuinely apologize since his way of speaking tends to be his defensive/coping mechanism. Makes me want to know more about what made him like that.

It makes the points where he shows the genuine care (SH1) and talks about his past good things (SH2) feel more like there is a more kinder person underneath that all Wang. I mean you can have a "good" guy and still have him be a bigot. I liked how in both Shadow Warrior 1 and Shadow Warrior 2 Wang was a "hero" but also an arsehole, it made him unique. I might be in the minority but the insensitive and blatantly stereotypical and racist cringe and downright "so bad that it is funny" jokes where what I liked about the character. Humour is an integral part of the series, and we never want to lose that, but both we and Devolver agreed back in 2012 that much of the “humour” in the original game simply doesn’t belong in the games we make today.
#Shadow warrior 1 cutscenes update#
When re-designing Lo Wang we made a conscious decision to update him as a younger, more switched on character that would be more appealing to today’s audience and shifted the humour more toward pop cultural references that Players can relate to, like movies and video games. What’s Flying Wild Hog’s approach to Shadow Warrior’s sense of humour? Has that developed over the course of the series? What’s happened over the course of the last few years that’s changed things, or provided new material for jokes? Very hyped for the Shadow Warrior 3 so I was reading around and found:
